Oak Grove does contain an oak grove but is
essentially a pastoral park which extends the design of the
first two segments. For many years, it was maintained by the
Druid Hills Garden Club. During those years, some elements
which were not consonant with Olmsted’s pastoral style were
introduced. The garden club has been supportive of the
return to that Olmsted style.This
segment of the park was the first to be rehabilitated and
served as a demonstration of what the entire park could
become. Paths, burial of utility lines, lighting, and
planting gave the Atlanta region an example of how careful
planning could capture the spirit of Olmsted. Copies of
planting plans from Fairsted National Historic Site, the
Olmsted office in Brookline, Massachusetts, assisted
landscape architect Spencer Tunnell in his design for this
and all other segments of the park.
